The robot can make the ad. It cannot sign it.

A legal briefing landed in my feed this morning under a title that sounds like a punchline and is not one: This Ad Was Made by a Robot. It is a lawyer walking marketing teams through what changes when the creative work in a campaign comes out of a model, and it exists because European regulators are now close enough to the question that the legal profession has started billing by the hour to answer it.

The obvious read is that advertising just got cheaper to produce. The one most people miss is that none of the liability moved. Someone still signs the claim. Someone still answers for what the model asserted about a product, a price, a person. The machine took the production work and left the accountability exactly where it was, sitting on a human desk, now attached to output that human did not write and may not fully understand.

Generation became free. Standing behind the output did not.

That is a repricing, and it runs the way every other AI repricing has run. Volume roles thin out. The work that survives is the work that carries responsibility: the marketer who can read what a model produced and know it is defensible, the person who can trace where a claim came from, the lead who understands the system well enough to catch it inventing a feature the product does not have. Teams that filed compliance and brand judgment under overhead are about to discover those were the load-bearing roles. The junior production jobs that quietly trained the next generation of that judgment are the first ones cut, and that is a bill which comes due later.

For hiring leaders, the practical read is simple. Before you cut production headcount because a model can do the drafting, name the person who signs off on what the model makes, and check that person actually exists on your org chart. If you cannot name them, you have not automated the work. You have only removed the people who were quietly doing the part that mattered.
